MAISON SHIFT à PARIS 2023:

Alternative ‘Fashion Futures’
Market & Design exchange in Paris

29.09.2023 by Lilla Wicki

MAISON SHIFT has selected 5 independent Swiss studios from the fashion, textile, jewelry and accessories sector to sell and discuss their work in a dynamic setting during a three-day event in Paris in September 2023.
Located in the vibrant Marais neighborhood in central Paris, MAISON SHIFT set up a temporary Pop-Up Market with a  colorful selection of sustainable goods available for purchase last fall. Selected brands connected with local makers for a Franco-Suisse design exchange on stage to explore and elaborate on possible alternative 'Fashion Futures.' In these public talks, the studios discussed their commitment to holistic creation, production, and business practices, while a reading corner and book stand by partners Centre Culturel Suisse and Makers Paris were open to browse and enjoy.

The participating studios had convinced an international jury on the basis of their clear aesthetic identity, the importance they placed on implementing sustainable practices, their long-term business model, as well as the quality of their products and their unique point of view.

DANZ
Danz was founded in 2022 by Swiss designer Mara Danz and deals with feminist issues, social awareness and sustainibility. “We love crafts and the art of making, as well as the creative process behind it, our speciality is our bold hand-screenprinted fabrics, for the prints we work with local archives of the Swiss textile history”.

SHERYLIN
Sherylin is the name of the jewelry and accessories brand handcrafted by Sherylin Birth and made using industrial machines inherited from her family business, which has been specialized in the production of metal goods, such as copper Kugelhopf, and porcelain dolls since 1940. She works brass with a sculptural and raw aesthetic, seeking beauty in the imperfection. Traces of the process are kept visible and each piece is irregular and unique.

DELRUBY
Delruby represents mindfulness, quality, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty. Based on the premise of collaboration and ethical trade standards, this project empowers local artisans in remote regions of the world and allows them to preserve their traditional weaving practices and their way of life. Founded in 2018 by the designer Iris Delruby Ruprecht, the business operates as a platform for the distribution of high quality hand crafted textiles, the profits of which are then re-invested into sustainable production methods in Nepal and soon in Mexico and Peru.

NCCFN
The variation of NCCFN’s network characterizes its autonomy as well as its social methodology within the fashion industry - still one of the leading creators of social and ecological problems worldwide.
“As NCCFN we use fashion and its industry as a medium to deal and understand these problems in a practical way. We work with the existing, with overproduction and remnants of the industry and develop methods to re-address these global products without origin”.

LARMA
Larma Studio is an independent eyewear brand founded by the designers Ania Marincek and Julia La Mendola. Their sunglasses are produced within a short circuit, using deadstock and recycled acetate from the industry. Combining texture, bright colors and bold designs, every step of the conception is meant to offer genderless shades made responsibly.

To diversify the Pop-Up Market, the jury decided to give 4 other brands the opportunity to send some select items from their collections to Paris:

TRABELSI
Fashion & Jewellery

LITTLE FURNITURE ASSEMBLAGE
Accessories

TATI THINGS
Knitwear & Accessories

THE SOAP AND THE SEA

Organic Soaps

This event and project was made possible by the partnership with the like-minded Mkrs. Paris,  the Centre culturel suisse. On Tour and by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.
