ECO SILKSCREEN PRINTING WITH PLANT-BASED DYES — With textile designer Jennifer Grunder from le monde de nous

Nou introduces you to eco-friendly silkscreen printing, a sustainable and versatile printing technique using plant-based dyes. Under expert guidance, you will learn all the steps necessary to create your own textile design.

For an entire evening, you will immerse yourself in the alchemy and technique of silkscreen printing with plant-based dyes. The workshop begins with an in-depth introduction to the world of natural dyes, covering both theoretical knowledge about plant-based pigments and hands-on fiber preparation techniques. After a brief introduction to the printing process, you will create a collective textile color sample, allowing you to familiarize yourself with silkscreen printing and the unique characteristics of plant-based colors. You'll also learn how to effectively overlay colors and generate mixed shades.

In the second part of the workshop, you will develop your own print design. Nou will guide you through different methods and techniques to create a striking composition. You will work with paper, scissors, a cutter, or tape. A vibrant selection of plant-based dyes is available for your personal design—from bright pinks, oranges, yellows, and purples to deep shades like black. These colors are environmentally friendly, wash-resistant, and handcrafted in Nou’s Zurich studio. Your design will be printed on an unhemmed silk piece (50x50 cm, plus a 20x50 cm test piece).
To conclude, you will learn how to sustainably fix your print onto the fabric and receive useful care tips for your newly created textile.

Since 2014, textile designer Jennifer Grunder has been promoting sustainable textile design with her Zurich-based label Nou. Her work focuses on raising awareness of the value, origin, and uniqueness of color. She extracts pigments from flowers, roots, wood, and peels, transforming them into poetic color stories on textiles.

PLANT PRINTS ON FABRIC (Botanical Dyeing) — With Corinna Mattner

Would you like to create unexpected and magical patterns on fabric? This workshop shows us a textile printing technique in which flowers and leaves transfer their own colors to the fabric. The result is always a surprise because the finished print often looks completely different from the plant!

In the workshop, Corinna Mattner will show us the unconventional technique of “bundle dyeing”, in which flowers and leaves leave their own traces on fabric. Many of the plants that surround us contain powerful active ingredients that are not only used in medicine, but can also be extracted as color molecules!

During the course we will put the cloths / T-shirts we have brought with us into the fixing elixir, familiarize ourselves with fibres, chemistry and mordants and learn together how the dyeing process works. Shortly before the end of the course, we will open the fabric bundles together, marvel and compare the print results with the original plants.

The course is right for you if you like plants and want to wear or give away something that you have dyed yourself!

Bring your own: T-shirt or piece of fabric made of cotton, wool or silk to print on.
Important: If you want to dye a new item of clothing, it must be pre-washed!
A prepared bandana / scarf can also be used on site.

No previous knowledge necessary.

UPCYCLE YOUR HOME TEXTILES: PRINTING WITH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES — With textile designer Maria Walter Nielsen

Join our workshop to transform vintage home textiles! Learn to print unique patterns using fruits and vegetables, giving old fabrics new life through creative techniques.
Have fun transforming vintage home textiles using natural printing techniques with fruits and vegetables. By harnessing the unique shapes and textures of fruits and vegetables, we will create beautiful, one-of-a-kind patterns and designs, giving old fabrics a fresh new life.

Inspired by Bruno Munari and his book "Rose nell’insalata", we will explore stamping, rolling, and printing methods to transfer organic shapes onto fabric. Participants will learn how to use different fruits and vegetables to create intricate textures and patterns, resulting in beautifully upcycled textiles.

Bring your own vintage linens, placemats, tea towels, or even a stained tablecloth—white or brightly colored textiles work best, but patterned, embroidered, or jacquard fabrics are also welcome. Using natural textile print colors, we will experiment with creative ways to print and refresh old textiles, making them both functional and artistic.

This workshop promotes sustainability through upcycling while offering a fun and engaging experience. Whether you're new to textile printing or looking to expand your creative skills, this session is the perfect opportunity to experiment, enjoy the process, and craft something truly unique.

FELT WORKSHOP — With Sophie from STUDIO REMO

Wool is amazing! Explore different felting techniques, make your own felted project and get to know more about Swiss wool.

Wool is an incredible material: not only is it soft, warm and confortable but this natural fibre is also sustainable, insulating, breathable, water and dirt repellent. It’s an abundant resource in Switzerland, where lots of farmers raise sheep, but it is still treated as a waste. One of remo’s goals is to collaborate with a network of farmers, spinning-mills, wool actors and wool passionate in Switzerland to give value to this beautiful fibre.

During this workshop, we will start by getting to know more about wool, its uses and transformation processes. We’ll then go through different felting techniques : wet felting, needle felting, 3D felting. After experimenting with colors and fibers, each participant will work on their own small felted project (like glasses case, wallet or key ring).

The workshop will be led by Sophie from studio remo. She will bring along a selection of tools and carded wools of different colors to play with.

No prior knowledge is required. The basics are quickly learned and fun to experiment with!

remo is a Swiss fashion design studio founded by Sophie Fellay, a HEAD—Genève graduate who previously worked for Eckhaus Latta and The Row in New York. Dedicated to sustainable practices, Sophie develops soft textiles that respect natural resources and aim to reconnect fashion with nature by valuing local wool, an under-appreciated resource.

The workshop will be held in English.
