Micro-Fibers: The Biggest Invisible Threat
Exhibition
01. June 2026

The installation presented at MAISON SHIFT by fashion designer and researcher Katarina Rimarcikova brings together sculptural garments suspended in space, making the often invisible impacts of synthetic textiles tangible. At its core is an exploration of microplastics and their effects on both environmental and human health.

The works invite us to reconsider our relationship with clothing: What do we wear, what do we buy, what do we discard, and what traces do these decisions leave behind? Moving between sensory experience and critical reflection, the installation opens up perspectives on possible futures beyond microplastic pollution.

The textile objects Poison Coat, Toxic Dress and Air Dress serve as points of departure for a collective space of reflection. They render an urgent issue visible and translate it into a bodily, experiential form. The installation positions itself both as an artistic statement and as a response to the fashion industry’s ongoing failure to adequately address synthetic materials and the release of microfibers.
